Our bodies are affected by the chemicals, nutrients, and other factors that we expose them to. Over time these elements can have a negative effect on the body and contribute to diminished health.  Consequently it is necessary to properly take care of our bodies. This involves more than just eating the right food. It also involves reversing the damage that has already been caused by bad eating habits. A cleansing fast is intended to help with this reversal process.

The environment around us and the food we eat affect our bodies and contribute to our overall physical condition. The external stimulants and the food we eat contribute to the toxic levels in the body. These toxic levels affect the liver and other digestive organs. In order to maintain proper health it is important that we take the steps necessary to heal the body.

A cleansing fast helps to reverse the negative effects that occur over time. The cleansing process involves the elimination or reducing of certain foods in our daily diets. This fasting period is usually for a limited amount of time.

While there are several different ways to do a cleansing fast one of the most common is the colon cleanse.  This fast is designed to address the toxins and wastes that can build-up within the colon and the intestine. The toxins that develop in these organs include chemical residue from antibiotics, pesticides and other chemicals that are often contained within the food we eat.

Fasting to cleanse the colon involves the omission of solid foods from a person’s diet for a limited period of time. This means that the individual on the diet does not eat any solid foods and strictly depends on liquids to supply nutrition. By only taking in liquids the individual aims to purge the body of the toxins that have built up in these parts of the body.

The colon functions to remove waste from the body and during this process the colon and intestinal walls become coated with residue or toxins that are left behind. Over time these residues build up and they can lead to illness. Participating in a cleansing fast helps rid the body of these toxins.

The fasting process can be taxing on the body and should only be followed when the individual on the fast can refrain from activity. The process of abstaining from solid foods deprives the body of necessary nutrients. This process does not hurt the body for short periods of time, but if these fasts are followed for extended periods of time they can have a detrimental affect on the body.

A cleansing fast is just one way of removing the toxins from the body.  Some medical professionals prefer the use of laxatives, Epsom salt, enemas, and other medicinal products to a fast. These professionals feel that these products provide the same results without the reduction of solid foods. However the counter argument is that these chemicals just go further to expose the body to foreign chemicals that can contribute to the toxic levels of the body and may very well be counterproductive.  Only you can decide which method you prefer.
