Liver Cleansing Diet

What is a liver cleansing diet used for?

The word diet is perhaps one of the most spoken words in the English language. There is a lot of misunderstanding and confusion behind this term. While the most common use of the term relates to the attempt to lose weight the truth is that any program pertaining to food and nutrition is referred to technically as a diet. In the case of the liver cleansing diet the program has a two-fold purpose.

The liver cleansing diet can be used both as a method for losing weight and can also be utilized as a method of assisting underweight individuals to gain weight. While this might seem contradictory, it is in fact common for this diet program to be used for both those that over weight and those that are underweight. In both cases the program is used to improve the health condition of the individual and strengthen the immune system.

The Liver cleansing diet is administered to those that are overweight in order to help curb food cravings. For those that are underweight this program is used to restore a healthy appetite. Often the loss of appetite in underweight individuals is as the result of a chronic illness. This loss of appetite is what has probably caused the loss of weight in the first place.

This diet program addresses the conditions inside the human body, focusing on restoring the health of the liver. Our livers often contain toxins and it is these toxins that affect our immune system and in turn can cause illness and eating disorders. By addressing the situation with the liver the medical condition can be corrected.

The liver cleansing diet works much in the way that the name implies. It removes the toxins in the liver through the use of a cleansing process. These toxins are comprised of carcinogens, food additives and preservatives and artificial sweeteners. Often antibiotics can create a toxic imbalance with the liver as well.

By cleansing the liver of these toxins the extenuating conditions are addressed and in turn the body is properly healed and the eating disorders are corrected. It may seem ironic to think that the organ that is intended to clean the body of waste needs to be cleaned. However, this is not much different than needing to change the bag on the vacuum cleaner and cleaning out the hoses so the vacuum operates properly.

The liver functions to remove the waste out of the digestive system. Over time the liver becomes contaminated with an excess of toxins and as a result fails to operate properly. The liver cleansing diet literally flushes out the liver of these toxins.

The liver cleansing diet is typically limited to a period of three days. During these days the individual on the diet drinks a large amount of fluids such as water and fruit juices and limits or omits the intake of any whole foods. During the first few days if the individual on the diet craves food then they should limit their food intake to fruits and vegetables and avoid any proteins such as fish, chicken or beef. After the first few days then whole foods can be slowly added to the diet. Once this cleansing process is followed an individual should refrain from the intake of processed foods, fried foods, alcohol and soft drinks in order to maintain the liver.
